About Ghềnh Bàng

Ghềnh Bàng (Hoang Sa Street, Tho Quang, Son Tra, Da Nang) is a pristine, somewhat "hidden" coastal corner on the Son Tra Peninsula, famous for its layered rock formations, crystal-clear water, and a feeling of being completely separated from the hustle and bustle of the city center. On Google, this spot is rated about 4.5/5 with over 1,000 reviews. The ghềnh is open for free 24/7, but the best experience is still during the day.

I have been to Ghenh Bang a few times, and every time I have the same feeling: the photos look great, but the way down is the challenging part. From the parking spot/drop-off point, you will have to walk along a trail down to the reef; there are steep and slippery sections (especially after rain), so wearing shoes with good grip is safer than flip-flops. In return, arriving at the destination reveals a stretch of clear blue sea, with large and small rocks forming "steps" to sit and chill while listening to the waves crashing right by your ears.

There are almost no stable food and drink services here (occasionally there are people selling water), so you should prepare water and light snacks in advance. One point I always remind my friends: you might encounter monkeys running around this area, so don't leave your food or belongings unattended when going down to swim or take photos. And if you plan to swim, choose a calm water area and avoid climbing on mossy rocks as they are very slippery.

If you like a gentle "Ghenh Bang travel" style, I recommend going early in the morning: the sun is mild, there are fewer people, the photos are beautiful, and it's less tiring when climbing back up. Just go slowly and prepare carefully; Ghenh Bang is a worthwhile breath of fresh air on the Son Tra route.

The layered rock reefs look great in photos, especially in the morning light. Bring a waterproof bag for your phone/camera if going near the water's edge.

Light picnic and sightseeing

Bring water and light food to sit and rest on the rock outcrops. Maintain hygiene and take your trash back up as there are few trash cans in this area.

Watching the sunrise (if going early)

Go early in the morning to avoid the harsh sun and catch the beautiful light. It’s cool, uncrowded, and the "private beach" feeling is much clearer.

Tips & Notes Ghềnh Bàng

1

Wear shoes with good grip, avoid slippery flip-flops

The path down has steep and slippery sections, especially after rain. Sneakers or trekking shoes will help you go up and down much more safely.

2

Go during the day, prioritize the morning

It's hard to see the path and the rocks at night. In the morning, the sun is mild, it's less crowded, photos turn out better, and climbing back up is less exhausting.

3

Prepare water and snacks in advance

There are almost no fixed stalls at Ghenh Bang. Bring enough water, especially on sunny days, to avoid losing energy when climbing back up.

4

Watch out for monkeys and keep personal belongings safe

Monkeys occasionally appear and easily notice food and small items. Do not leave your belongings or food unattended when swimming or taking photos.

5

Do not climb on mossy rocks, observe waves before entering the water

Moss is very slippery and easy to fall on. If waves are large or the water is murky, you should just sit and enjoy the view instead of swimming.

6

Proactively take your trash back up

Trash in some sections reduces the experience and affects the environment. Bring a small bag to collect your own trash.
