Experience visiting Linh Ung Pagoda Son Tra Da Nang: opening hours, directions, and tips
About Chùa Linh Ứng
Linh Ung Pagoda Son Tra is the spot I always suggest to anyone visiting Da Nang for the first time: it offers both a peaceful spiritual space and a panoramic view of the sea and the city from a very "satisfying" height. On Google, the pagoda is rated 4.7/5 with 6,893 reviews — which is quite close to my actual experience: clean, spacious, orderly, and easy to visit.
Address: 472H+435 Lâm Tỳ Ni Garden, Hoang Sa, Tho Quang, Son Tra, Da Nang. Opening hours: 6:00–21:00 daily. I went in the afternoon near sunset; the sea breeze was strong, the weather was cool (some days it gets quite cold), so standing at the Goddess of Mercy statue area looking out over the bay was very impressive.
The biggest highlight is the prominent white Goddess of Mercy statue (many call it “Lady Buddha”), standing tall facing the sea. The pagoda grounds are meticulously maintained: gardens, miniatures, statues, and airy walkways. If you take the time to walk slowly, you will see that the pagoda is not just for “checking-in” but also perfect for relaxing, breathing in the breeze, listening to the bells, and watching the clouds drift over the sea surface.
Regarding transportation, the road up to Son Tra Peninsula is easy to travel but has some steep sections and curves; I recommend going by motorbike/car during the day to see the scenery more clearly. Note that when it rains, the stone steps can be slippery. To enter the main hall, you need to dress politely (cover shoulders and knees) and remove your shoes as per regulations.
If you have 1–2 hours, you can see enough of the beauty; if you want to "chill" more, add extra time to stop and enjoy the view, take photos, and visit nearby spots on Son Tra.

Highlights
Visit the pagoda grounds & main hall
Stroll around the pagoda courtyard, ornamental gardens, and enter the main hall (remember to dress politely and remove shoes). The space is large, clean, and quite quiet; walking slowly will help you clearly feel the relaxation.
Check-in at Lady Buddha statue & look out to the sea
The white statue stands out against the sky and sea, looking great in photos. I love standing at the corners facing the bay; the breeze is cool and the distant city view is clear.
Watch the sunset on Son Tra Peninsula
Go around 16:30–17:30 when the sunlight is soft and less intense. On days with strong winds, it will be colder, but in return, the scenery is very "cinematic."
Combine with enjoying the Son Tra (Monkey Mountain) road near the pagoda
After visiting, you can continue driving further around Son Tra to admire the sea, forest, and scenic viewpoints. You should go during the day and drive at a moderate speed because of the steep curves.
Tips & Notes Chùa Linh Ứng
Go early or near sunset to avoid crowds and heat
Early morning is airy with fewer people; late afternoon has beautiful light for photos and sightseeing.
Bring a light jacket
It is often windy at high altitudes; some days can be unexpectedly cool/cold even if the city center is sunny.
Be careful during or after rain
Stone steps and floors can be slippery; you should wear shoes with good grip and walk slowly.
Dress politely if entering the main hall
You should cover your shoulders and knees; avoid clothes that are too short or revealing to avoid being reminded.
If traveling by motorbike, fill up on gas before going up Son Tra
There are few gas stations on the route up the peninsula; preparing in advance will give you more control.
Spend at least 1–2 hours so as not to be rushed
The grounds are quite large with many beautiful corners; walking slowly makes it worthwhile.
