Mui Nghe Da Nang Travel Experience: Directions, Trekking, and Safety Tips 2026
About Mui Nghe Da Nang Travel Experience: Directions, Trekking, and Safety Tips 2026
Mui Nghe (Tho Quang, Son Tra, Da Nang) is a rocky promontory facing the sea on the eastern side of the Son Tra Peninsula, famous for its views of the city and crystal-clear blue water. On Google, this spot is rated 4.5/5 with 134 reviews.
I visited Mui Nghe early one morning, and it felt like a true "change of pace" from the city center: featuring both mountain-hugging roads and sections looking straight out to sea. Upon reaching the parking/stopping point, you will have to walk further (depending on the route) – some sections are easy concrete paths, but others leading down to the rocky cliffs are quite slippery and steep. Some reviews say it is just "walking to the cliff," but in reality, the most valuable part here is the moment of standing on the rocky cape, with strong winds blowing, taking in the panoramic view of the Son Tra sea and the curve of Da Nang Bay.
However, Mui Nghe is not a place where you "arrive and immediately see the view." I find this experience suitable for light exploration lovers: go early, bring water, and wear shoes with good grip. During the rainy season or after rain, some sections of the Eastern Son Tra road may be blocked for safety reasons (landslides/slippery roads) as many tourists have reported, so remember to check the situation before riding up.
If you want a truly pristine sunrise/sea viewing spot while still in Da Nang, then traveling to Mui Nghe Da Nang is well worth a try — just prioritize safety and do not attempt to go near the edge of the rocks when there are big waves.
Highlights
Light trekking to Mui Nghe rocky cape
From the stopping/parking point, you walk further through concrete paths and trails to reach the rocky cape. The trail is not too long but has steep and slippery spots, especially after rain.
Chasing the sunrise and landscape photography
Go early to catch the beautiful light; when the sky is clear, you will see the blue sea and the curve of the bay. The wind is quite strong, so hold your phone/camera firmly when shooting on the cliff.
Watching the sea and observing the coastal ecosystem
In the rocky reef area, you can see crabs, snails, and small organisms clinging to the rocks (depending on the season and tide). Observe only, do not trap/catch, and limit wading when waves are high.
Motorbike route exploring Son Tra Peninsula
Combine Mui Nghe with other spots on Son Tra to create a mountain-sea loop. Note that sometimes certain sections are restricted/closed for safety.
Tips & Notes Mui Nghe Da Nang Travel Experience: Directions, Trekking, and Safety Tips 2026
Check road conditions before going
During the rainy season or after heavy rain, the Eastern Son Tra area may be blocked due to the risk of landslides/falling rocks. Ask locals/check Google Maps and consider turning back if there are barricades.
Wear shoes with good grip, do not wear slippery sandals
The path down to the cliff can be slippery, steep, and jagged. Sneakers or trekking shoes will be much safer.
Do not go near the water's edge during big waves
The sea here is quite "open," and unexpected waves can splash up. When taking photos, stand in a secure position and avoid climbing dangerous rocky ledges.
Bring enough water and light snacks
This area has no services on-site. Bring at least 1 bottle of water per person and some energy snacks if traveling in the sun.
Go early for beauty and coolness
The 5:00–7:00 AM timeframe (depending on the season) is usually cool, less crowded, and the light is very "photogenic." Going late means harsh sun and strong winds, which can be exhausting.
Keep it clean and carry your trash back
The terrain is pristine, so trash is very difficult to collect. Bring a small bag to gather personal waste and absolutely do not break branches or smash rocks.
