Tam Hai Island Commune - The Last Pristine Gem of Quang Nam
About Tam Hải
Tam Hai is a small island commune located at the southern sea gateway of Da Nang (in an area formerly belonging to Quang Nam), famous for its calm beaches, clear water, and unique black rock formations such as Ban Than - Hon Mang - Hon Dua. My first impression upon stepping onto the island was the salty air, the tranquility, and an authentic "fishing village" lifestyle: basket boats, drying nets, and locals chatting loudly yet friendlily.
What I love most about Tam Hai is its raw beauty. The water in many areas is quite calm, allowing you to wade further out than at many other beaches, making it perfect for swimming, SUP paddling, or simply lying back to listen to the waves. However, as some reviews mentioned and I experienced firsthand: some beaches still have drifted trash, so the experience will be more complete if you bring a trash bag and help pick up a few small items.
Tourism services on the island are not yet abundant. For a day trip, it is very comfortable, but if you plan to stay overnight, you need to book in advance because accommodation options are scarce (I recall there aren't many guesthouses on the island). In return, the local seafood is incredibly satisfying: fresh, reasonably priced, and the feeling of sitting and eating right in the fishing village is hard to find elsewhere.
If you want a seaside trip that avoids the crowds, Tam Hai is well worth spending 1 day (or 2 days 1 night) exploring, especially when combining sunrise/sunset watching with visiting the coastal rock formations.
