Hoi An Market: Eat Through a Food Paradise for 100k in 2026?
About Chợ Hội An
Hoi An Market (01 Tran Phu, Hoi An Ancient Town, now part of Da Nang territory following the merger with Quang Nam) is a “must-visit” stop if you want to understand the rhythm of life in the old town through the smell of food, street cries, and colorful stalls. The market is located right next to the Hoai River, just a few minutes' walk from the evening flower lantern release area.
I like visiting the market at a slow pace: circling through the vegetable and spice sections, then turning into the dried goods and local specialties area. The stalls here are quite diverse: fish sauce, tre, dry cakes, chili garlic roasted peanuts, sesame candy, herbal tea… If you need gifts to bring home, just ask for types that are easy to pack, have a long shelf life, and are vacuum-sealed.
The most "heart-melting" spot is still the food court. Just one stroll around and you'll see all the signature Hoi An dishes: Cao Lau, Quang noodles, chicken rice, water fern cake, wontons, savory pancakes… The prices I encountered were quite affordable, around 30,000–60,000 VND per dish depending on the stall and portion. Eating in the market has its own unique charm: hot, quick, and you can watch the flow of people passing by while you eat.
In the evening, the market and the Hoai riverbank light up, the atmosphere becomes more pleasant, and it’s great for photos. A small note: the market is crowded between 9–11 AM and after 6 PM; opening hours may vary by stall, but it usually operates from early morning until late evening.
If you want a “real Hoi An” experience, I think Hoi An Market is worth spending at least 1–2 hours: eat a delicious dish, buy a few small beautiful items, and watch the ancient town transform throughout the day.
