Discovering Nam O Beach - A Rough Gem in the Heart of Da Nang
About Bãi Tắm Nam Ô
Nam O Beach (Nam O rock reef area) is a very "rustic" coastal corner in the Northwest of Da Nang, located in the Hai Van area. Google location: 449H+FRM, Nam O 1, Hai Van, Da Nang. This place is being sought after by many for its layered black rock formations, clear water, and seasonal green moss patches. On Google, the beach has a rating of approximately 4.5/5 with 91 reviews.
I visited at the end of March, and the first feeling was "quiet and windy," exactly like a check-in spot that hasn't been over-commercialized. The rocky beach looks great in photos, especially during golden hour or slightly overcast weather. However, this is not a gentle sandy beach; this area has many rocks, shells, and ceramic fragments, so if you go down to the water's edge, you must walk slowly and wear shoes with good grip.
The entrance has a narrow alley section; cars can still enter but need to yield to each other. At certain times, there are construction projects around, making it look a bit messy, but in return, the main rock reef is still beautiful and maintains its wild character. I also noticed a parking fee area (many visitors reported about 20,000 VND), otherwise, there is almost no entrance fee.
If you like a peaceful sea atmosphere, want a "change of air" from the city center, and want to hunt for seasonal green moss, Nam O is an option worth trying. Just go early, check the tides, and maintain cleanliness so the beach stays as beautiful as it naturally is.
