Tan Ky Old House is one of the most typical ancient houses in Hoi An Ancient Town, located right on the Nguyen Thai Hoc axis, making it very easy to visit while walking.

When I entered Tan Ky Old House, the first impression was the long "tube house" style, with the front opening to the trading street and the back facing the river area. The interior space was cooler than I imagined thanks to the skylight in the middle of the house, which provides both light and ventilation. The dark woodwork, rafters, and carved details give a very "aged" feel, yet it remains tidy because it is well-preserved.

The house dates back to around the late 18th century, clearly reflecting the architectural interference of Vietnam – China – Japan. My favorite part is how they display household items, antiques, and details that tell the story of an ancient merchant family's life. Sometimes it gets quite crowded with groups arriving at the same time, so the experience can be a bit "jammed" in narrow sections; in return, going with a guide/introduction at the site will help you better understand the meaning of the couplets, the house structure, and the ancient people's way of flood prevention.
